Coordination Meeting of Directors of Application and Research Centers Held


The 2025 Coordination Meeting of the Directors of Application and Research Centers at Istanbul Gelisim University was held on November 12 under the chairmanship of IGU Rector Prof. Bahri ŞAHİN. During the meeting, the activities carried out in 2024–2025 were evaluated and the objectives for the new term were discussed.


Vice Rector responsible for Research and Development Prof. Necmettin MARAŞLI, Vice Rector Nuri KURUOĞLU, and the Center Directors attended the meeting. Following the opening speech by IGU Rector Prof. Bahri ŞAHİN, a presentation was delivered by Application and Research Centers Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Ahmet SAPMAZ on the activities of the Application and Research Centers covering the year 2024 and the first half of 2025. It was shared that a total of 227 activities were conducted across all centers in 2024, and 153 activities along with 42 scientific meetings were carried out in the January–June 2025 period.

“Our Goal is to Become a Research University”

In the continuing part of the meeting, the expectations from the Application and Research Centers regarding the goal of becoming a “Research University” in the upcoming period were discussed. IGU Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri ŞAHİN emphasized the importance of strengthening the research networks of the centers and conducting internal and/or external projects. He also stated that cooperation between students, academics, and the Application and Research Centers would enhance the university’s research capacity.



Application and Research Centers Coordination Unit to Publish Monthly Bulletin


During the meeting, various opinions and recommendations were expressed by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necmettin Maraşlı and the Center Directors to enhance the scope of activities. Accordingly, it was decided that centers will plan their annual activities in line with the University’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan, provide supervision for students’ TÜBİTAK 2209-A / 2209-B projects, and conduct internal and/or external projects.

 
It was also planned to ensure internship opportunities for students in Application and Research Centers where internships are available, and to hold meetings every 15 days with Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necmettin MARAŞLI, Application and Research Centers Coordination Unit, and the center directors to regularly coordinate activities. Furthermore, it was decided that the Application and Research Centers Coordination Unit will publish a monthly bulletin to share the centers’ activities with the public.

In conclusion, it was stated that efforts to ensure the effective implementation of research, development, and community service activities by the Application and Research Centers will continue to increase in the upcoming period.
